Extending Learning Beyond the Classroom Walls

April 11, 2018, 12:15pm
Learning can and should happen 24/7, and research shows that when it is connected to people’s lives, it’s more beneficial, more robust, and ”stickier.” So, how do we draw on environments outside the classroom walls and leverage them in service of our educational aims? How can this help us engage with our broader communities, transcend traditional academic boundaries, and foster deep learning? Join your Berkeley colleagues for an open, informal discussion.
Registration is unavailable.

Improving Students' Learning by Having Them Teach

February 8, 2018, 2:00pm
Faculty often tell us, “I didn’t really learn it until I taught it.” In this session, we will talk about positioning students as instructors within the context of an existing course—placing them in charge of their own and others’ learning. We’ll explore the impetus for changing the dynamic, discuss challenges and opportunities, and surface models that can adopted or adapted for your own course. Please join your Berkeley colleagues for this open and informal discussion.
Registration is unavailable.

Teaming with Diversity Workshop with Sara Beckman

January 11, 2018, 9:30am
A half-day workshop for instructors on how to design and facilitate effective teams, drawing upon each member's unique strengths. Participants will be introduced to the training tools and resources that Beckman uses to coach faculty as well as industry executives, and have an opportunity to work on their own projects.

An Evolution in Grading and Teaching: Gradescope Faculty Panel

November 9, 2017, 1:00pm
What does the future of grading look like? Please join us for a faculty panel to hear how Berkeley instructors are using Gradescope--an online, rubric-based grading platform--to save time and improve learning outcomes.
