Effective, Secure, and Efficient Summative Assessment Using a Computer-Based Testing Facility

For the past few years, the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois has been running a computer-based testing facility (CBTF) to improve course exam assessment at scale (25+ courses, 50,000 students). The exams are unique to each student, reduce grading time, allow for flexible scheduling and testing accommodations, and can reduce failure rates for struggling students by allowing opportunities for review and practice. Hear from Craig Zilles, visiting faculty from the University of Illinois, about basic operation of the CBTF, mechanisms and policies for security, and findings from specific courses about increased learning gains and reduced failure rates.
