ARVR: Artivive Workshop for Faculty

The Arts + Design Initiative has purchased a campus license for the ARVR app Artivive, that was recently launched at SkyDeck, for faculty to use on their own projects or on projects with their class/students. In this workshop, faculty will be trained on how to use this easy-to-use technology and you will learn from professionals and graduate students who incorporate this into their work. By the end of the workshop, each participant will have created their first ARVR experience.

New Frontiers in Japanese Digital Humanities: A Collaborative Workshop by the Art Research Center of Ritsumeikan University and the University of California, Berkeley

Participants in this workshop will have hands-on experience with transcribing Japanese cursive texts from the Edo period in the portal to Japanese Special Collections in the C. V. Starr East Asian Library. This new tool developed in collaboration between ARC and Toppan Printing Co. applies deep learning technology in order to transcribe Japanese cursive texts and helps readers to identify characters with significant accuracy.

These programs are designed for faculty from all disciplines to engage in a performing arts experience and facilitated conversation to deepen understanding of the subject matter, draw connections between different academic fields, and discuss pedagogical potential and implications. Cal Performances-Mellon Grant Proposal Workshop
