Inclusive Design Demonstration with Ally

August 19, 2019, 1:30pm to 2:30pm
Intended audience:
Academic Support Staff, Instructors

Please join us for a demonstration of an inclusive design tool, called Ally. Ally is a campus-supported set of tools within bCourses that helps make course content more accessible by allowing students and instructors to convert files to HTML, EPUB, electronic braille, MP3 (audio), and over 30 translated languages.

Ally also provides instructors with visual indicators (not visible to students) gauging the accessibility of source files and assigns an accessibility score to each uploaded file. In addition to supporting students with disabilities, alternative formats and languages can also support English language learners and students who may prefer to engage with learning materials while on the move. Students can autonomously pick file types that work best for them removing any burden on the instructor for assistance. Data from the first years use of this tool will also be shared with participants.

If you cannot attend the demonstration but are interested or have further questions, please contact joeferia@berkeley.edu(link sends e-mail).

Series description

Digital Learning Services is excited to offer workshops focused on creating accessible documents.  These workshops provide opportunities for hands-on participation, covering common software (Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Acrobat), specialized software for remediation (Ally in bCourses) as well as best practices for inclusive design.

Participants will leave each workshop with a list of resources to assist them in future remediation efforts.

For more information on accessible course content, please visit accesscontent.berkeley.edu and the Digital Learning Services Accessibility Hub.

PLEASE NOTE: These workshops take place in different locations on campus. Please check the location of the specific event(s) you would like to attend.
