Designing a Performing Arts-Integrated Curriculum

Interested in incorporating music, dance, theater, or other arts forms into your course? Hear from colleagues who have done this successfully (and in innovative ways) across a variety of disciplines and learn about opportunities for engagement and funding.

This event is the first in a new series of programs intended to foster creative and thoughtful integrations of the performing arts into teaching and learning. Featuring current and past recipients of the Cal Performances-Mellon Foundation Course integration grant, the program will highlight pedagogical approaches that bridge multiple fields and academic perspectives as well as the challenges and outcomes of connecting curricular goals (for content and student exposure) to performing arts programming and artists. A Q&A session will follow the panel.

The Cal Performances-Mellon grant (now entering its fifth year) offers instructors and their departments substantial funds to propose, develop, and teach innovative, interdisciplinary courses drawing upon the strengths of Cal Performances programs and staff. These awards are available to faculty, lecturers, postdocs, and graduate student instructors. Funded courses provide students with free attendance to an instructor-curated series of Cal Performances events and the opportunity to work with teaching artists and other special guests.

During this event, we'll briefly introduce the Mellon grant application process. The series also includes invitations for teaching faculty to attend special Cal Performances events and participate in rich, interdisciplinary conversation.
