The Showcase of Teaching Innovation and Reinvention (STIR), aims to highlight work that has accomplished a variety of goals in improving pedagogy. Popular topics presented in the past revolved around student engagement strategies, large enrollment courses, and classroom and curriculum assessment. The event also facilitates further networking with colleagues, and more broadly disseminates the outcomes of individual faculty efforts. 

Call for Proposals Now Open!

We invite short talks from instructors (ladder-rank faculty, lecturers, graduate students) on a novel teaching strategy, course component, time-saving tip, or other good ideas that celebrate teaching at Berkeley and foster student/instructor success. Talks are limited to 5 minutes, with a maximum of five slides (no need for a title slide).

Proposals may touch on topics including, but not limited to:

  • student engagement (e.g., active learning, teamwork, peer interaction)
  • assignment design
  • assessment
  • digital or hybrid pedagogies
  • teaching tools
  • experiential or service learning
  • diversity, equity, inclusion

The deadline for submissions is 5:00PM, Sunday, April 14. Presenters will be notified by April 26 if their proposal has been accepted.

Series description

The Showcase of Teaching Innovation and Reinvention (STIR), formerly known as Waves of Innovation, is an annual showcase celebrating the work of Berkeley instructors, particularly with regard to novel or effective strategies for student engagement, large-enrollment courses, student writing, assessment, and student-faculty collaboration.
